Tensions escalated in West Bengal's Barasat on Wednesday as a BJP rally, designed to spotlight crimes against women, was met with resistance. The march, part of the 'Kanya Suraksha Yatra', was led by opposition leader Suvendu Adhikari.
The rally participants found themselves under attack, reportedly from TMC supporters who pelted them with stones and confronted them with black flags. This provoked a response from BJP activists, who resorted to sticks and water bottles, leading to further chaos, including vandalized motorcycles.
To quell the disorder, police forces, including the Rapid Action Battalion, intervened. Adhikari, undeterred by the attack, continued the march, later alleging a rise in women's crimes due to collapsing law and order in Bengal. The Trinamool Congress has yet to comment on these accusations.
