West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee made a defiant stand against the Bharatiya Janata Party on Wednesday, asserting her political strength in advance of the 2026 assembly elections. During a public meeting at Panchmatha More in Jhargram, she boldly declared, "You cannot defeat me unless I let you."
Banerjee did not specifically name the BJP; however, her statements were clearly aimed at the party's leadership. Emphasizing her resilience, the Trinamool Congress leader compared herself to a tiger, unfazed by opposition attempts to hinder her. Recollecting her resilience in surviving past political violence, she warned adversaries of the danger in underestimating her resolve.
Her speech also addressed recent actions by the Election Commission to suspend government officers, which she criticized as politically biased, linking it to pressure from BJP leadership. Banerjee rallied for voter vigilance and urged the public to resist stigmatization based on linguistic identity. A senior BJP leader dismissed her fiery rhetoric, attributing it to insecurity.
