Launching a pointed critique of the BJP, West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee accused the party of scheming to target Bengali-speaking migrants through voter list purges. She warned that should genuine voters be disenfranchised, she would highlight the Centre's alleged mistreatment of Bengalis on international stages.
Addressing a large crowd of migrant families and tribal leaders in Jhargram, the Trinamool Congress chief claimed the BJP aimed to systematically disenfranchise minorities and opposition supporters through an underhanded NRC tactic. Banerjee also criticized the BJP's insistence on citizenship documents, questioning the leaders' ability to produce their own parents' birth certificates.
Banerjee's critique extended to the BJP's outreach efforts in the Gulf, contrasting it with their treatment of tribals and Muslims in Bengal. She warned of widespread protests if the BJP persists with its agenda in the state, asserting that Bengal will defend its rights vigorously.
