In a heated debate surrounding the Trump's administration decision to double tariffs on Indian goods, Congress Member of Parliament Karti Chidambaram suggested a darker motive, hinting at a considerable influence of the Pakistan Army within US commercial dealings.
Chidambaram questioned justifications linking the tariffs to India's trade relations with Russia, emphasizing the European and American dealings with Moscow. He suggested that the Indo-US tensions might relate more to a close alignment between the US political establishment and Pakistan's military, as indicated by the unprecedented US visits by Field Marshal Munir.
As political parties in India present diverging viewpoints, the Ministry of External Affairs pledged to defend national interests, rejecting US claims. At the same time, a US Senior Official countered that India's Russian oil imports outweigh US limited imports from Russia, hinting at the geopolitical complexity of the issue.
