Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan has launched a scathing attack on Prime Minister Narendra Modi following his Independence Day speech, accusing him of glorifying the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS). Vijayan declared that celebrating the RSS in such a context ''insulted'' both the day and India's freedom struggle.

Vijayan, in a statement from his office, alleged that Modi's commendation of the RSS attempted to falsely attribute the role of independence to the group, which was banned following Mahatma Gandhi's assassination. He claimed such actions distort historical truths and warned against efforts to rewrite the past.

The Chief Minister vehemently opposed the glorification of an organization he describes as carrying a poisonous legacy of divisive politics, urging the nation to unite against these efforts. He emphasized the importance of remembering true national heroes like Mahatma Gandhi and Bhagat Singh.
