The recent introduction of the 130th Constitutional Amendment Bill has ignited a firestorm of controversy, particularly from Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M K Stalin. Labeling the legislation as a 'Black Bill,' Stalin accused the bill of striking at the heart of democracy by giving undue power to the ruling BJP to suppress political opponents.

Union Home Minister Amit Shah, who introduced the bill in the Lok Sabha, faced staunch opposition as the legislation, alongside two others, sparked widespread protest. The controversial amendment allows for the arrest and removal of political figures, such as chief ministers, without trial or conviction after 30 days of arrest on severe charges.

Critics argue that the bill could lead to authoritarian practices, prompting calls for unity among democratic forces to oppose its adoption. As tensions rise, a Joint Committee of Parliament is set to review the provisions, aiming to quell the uproar from opposition parties and regional leaders.
