Swiss Medics Demand Action on Gaza Conflict

Swiss medics commenced a hunger strike outside parliament on Monday, urging Bern to adopt a firmer stance on Israel's actions in Gaza. The medics are demanding more decisive measures, such as imposing sanctions on Israel or recognizing Palestine.

While Switzerland has condemned certain Israeli actions, like the attack on a hospital, it has resisted stronger measures. Medics, in pairs, don stethoscopes and medical tunics with fake blood, fasting in shifts during the September parliamentary session.

Professor Pietro Majno-Hurst, a surgeon involved, criticized the need to remove protective garments to ensure safety, highlighting the urgency for a change in Swiss policy. The protest coincides with demonstrations at Swiss universities and rising famine in Gaza.
