The Election Commission on Thursday categorically dismissed allegations by Congress leader Rahul Gandhi, who claimed that the Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar was shielding individuals involved in voter manipulation, deemed as 'vote chors.'
Gandhi's assertion involved claims of systematic deletion of Congress supporters' votes ahead of upcoming elections, particularly citing a Karnataka Assembly constituency. However, the Election Commission refuted these allegations as both incorrect and baseless.
In response, the EC highlighted a previous investigation into unsuccessful deletion attempts in the Aland Assembly constituency, underlining that any vote deletion follows due process and an opportunity for the affected individual to be heard. The Commission also noted the contrasting electoral outcomes in Aland from 2018 and 2023.
