Mirwaiz Umar Farooq's Battle for Faith and Rights

For a second consecutive Friday, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq, the chairman of the Hurriyat Conference, reported being denied permission to attend prayers at the Jama Masjid in Jammu. This claim was made via a post on his X handle, citing restrictions imposed by authorities.

Farooq mentioned that he was placed under house arrest following the death of former Hurriyat chief Abdul Gani Bhat. He criticized the authorities for allegedly curbing basic rights and voiced concerns over not being allowed to participate in Bhat's funeral or offer prayers for the deceased's soul.

Expressing dissatisfaction with the situation, Farooq accused the regime of an authoritarian approach, preventing him from practicing his faith. He emphasized that despite being barred from mosques and other acts of remembrance, the authorities cannot silence the people's faith and pursuit of justice.
