On Friday, PDP chief Mehbooba Mufti urged Union Home Minister Amit Shah to adopt a humanitarian perspective on the case involving banned JKLF leader Mohammad Yasin Malik. Malik, known for renouncing violence in favor of political engagement, continues to grapple with imprisonment due to past allegations.

Arrested in February 2019, Malik faces charges including kidnapping and terrorist activities. Despite differing political views, Mufti acknowledges the courage it took Malik to abandon violence, asserting that his current health conditions and previous choices warrant compassionate consideration.

Mufti publicly shared her letter to Shah on her X platform, emphasizing Malik's transformation and trust in the state to pursue non-violent change. She reiterated her plea for a compassionate review, highlighting Malik's alignment with peaceful political avenues since 1994.
