In a direct appeal, Congress leader Rahul Gandhi has urged Prime Minister Narendra Modi to announce a comprehensive relief package for Punjab, which has been severely affected by recent floods. Gandhi criticized the initial relief of Rs 1600 crore announced by the government as inadequate for the scale of devastation faced by the state.
During his visit to flood-stricken areas along the India-Pakistan border, Gandhi interacted with distressed residents who have lost homes and livelihoods. The affected people also raised concerns over inadequate infrastructure and broken promises from the local government regarding assistance and rehabilitation.
Punjab has sustained estimated losses of Rs 20,000 crore due to the floods, with extensive damage to homes, crops, and livestock. Gandhi highlighted the community's remarkable resilience and called on the Prime Minister to respond with a more substantial aid package to aid recovery and rebuild lives.
