The political atmosphere in Kerala's Assembly turned tense as the Congress-led UDF opposition announced their decision to boycott proceedings, demanding the resignation of the Devaswom Minister. This action comes amid allegations concerning the reduced weight of gold coverings on Dwarapalaka idols at Sabarimala Temple.
For the third day in succession, opposition members staged a protest during the question hour, voicing concerns about the fate of the Dwarapalaka idols, which they claim were illicitly removed and sold. Leader of Opposition V D Satheesan declared non-cooperation until the Minister's resignation and the dismissal of Travancore Devaswom Board members.
Meanwhile, the Kerala High Court has responded by directing the formation of an SIT to probe into the allegations of missing gold. The court's decision was prompted by findings that revealed an unexplained reduction in the weight of gold-plated claddings, spotlighting potential lapses by Devaswom officials.
