The Election Commission (EC) has reiterated that the model code of conduct is applicable to the Central government concerning any announcements or policy decisions related to Bihar. This directive comes as the EC announced the schedule for the Assembly elections slated for November 6 and 11, with counting on November 14.
As part of its directive, the EC emphasized the importance of respecting citizen privacy, prohibiting demonstrations outside private residences, and forbidding unauthorized use of land and buildings for campaign materials. It called for consent from property owners before displaying any electoral flags, banners, or posters.
Additionally, the EC issued instructions to the Bihar chief secretary to manage the removal of defacement from properties and to prevent misuse of official resources by political entities. Furthermore, there is a ban on advertisements funded by the public exchequer during the election period.
