Tamil Nadu CM Denounces Delimitation Bill as 'Grand Conspiracy'

Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin has condemned the Delimitation Bill, 2026, labeling it a 'grand conspiracy' aimed at undermining the representation of Southern states. Stalin has called for the withdrawal of the bill, dismissing Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah's reassurances that states' representation will remain unaffected.

Stalin blasted the extensive powers granted to the newly proposed delimitation commission, arguing that the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) could redraw constituencies for political advantage. He emphasized that the bill's provisions pave the way for arbitrary changes, thus intensifying his call for the bill's withdrawal.

The Chief Minister further warned of dire consequences if the bill is forced through despite opposition, stressing the need for constitutional safeguards established during Indira Gandhi and Atal Bihari Vajpayee's tenures. Union Home Minister Amit Shah, however, reassured that Southern states' representation would not diminish, maintaining a similar percentage of influence in the House.
