The Election Commission has swiftly replaced the Police Observer for the Nandigram Assembly constituency in West Bengal just two days before a critical polling phase. This decision followed allegations from the Trinamool Congress regarding bias against BJP by local authorities.
Hitesh Choudhury, initially assigned as the observer for the high-profile Nandigram seat, was substituted by Akhilesh Singh. This change was prompted by complaints alleging the Officer-in-Charge at Nandigram Police Station failed to act on grievances lodged by TMC workers against BJP members.
The Election Commission aims to maintain impartiality throughout its operations, having stationed 84 police observers to ensure fair conducting of elections across West Bengal. Adjustments have been made in other areas as well, including Malda and Jangipur, to uphold the integrity of the upcoming assembly elections.
