Nepal's Home Minister Resigns Amid Allegations of Financial Misconduct

Nepal's Home Minister, Sudan Gurung, has stepped down amid allegations of financial misconduct. His resignation, following a brief tenure starting March 27, comes as accusations of business ties with a controversial figure surface. Public demands for transparency and accountability, highlighted by the Gen Z movement, played a role.

Gurung, who made headlines for arresting former prime minister K P Oli and ex-home minister Ramesh Lekhak promptly after taking office, noted ethics and public trust as his guiding principles. He announced his resignation on social media, emphasizing the importance of a clean public life and leadership accountability.

Previously active in the Gen Z protests, Gurung was known for his supportive role, such as water distribution at protest sites. Prime Minister Balendra Shah now handles the home ministry portfolio. The recent changes follow Prime Minister Shah's earlier dismissal of Minister Dip Kumar Sah over allegations of misconduct.
