Bratya Basu Accuses BJP of Political Manipulation in West Bengal

West Bengal Education Minister Bratya Basu accused the BJP of planning to deport Bengali speakers whose names were removed from the electoral roll following the Special Intensive Revision. He linked these actions to a broader plan associated with the National Register of Citizens (NRC).

Speaking at the Trinamool Congress' 'Meet the Press' at Kolkata's Press Club, Basu criticized BJP's alleged electoral roll manipulation. He claimed the BJP intends to establish detention camps in Bengal, echoing actions in Assam where many, including Hindus, were detained under NRC pretenses.

Basu highlighted Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee's active efforts to counter BJP's strategies, emphasizing the opportunity to restore omitted names through tribunal intervention. He also lambasted the BJP's alleged indifference to the Aparajita Bill, aimed at women's safety, which remains unapproved by the President.
