The Trinamool Congress (TMC) has hit back at Prime Minister Narendra Modi's statement regarding the West Bengal Assembly polls turnout, claiming it supports Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee rather than indicating a desire for change.
Addressing the media, TMC spokesperson Kunal Ghosh claimed the high voter turnout signifies support for Banerjee's governance and development agenda, rather than an endorsement of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). He projected that the TMC could secure at least 125 seats, potentially increasing to 134 out of 152 constituencies in the first phase of polls.
Ghosh dismissed the BJP's narrative of anti-incumbency, attributing increased participation to changes in electoral rolls and substantial female voter turnout, which the TMC views as a testament to Banerjee's popularity and the effectiveness of her welfare initiatives.
