Voter turnout in the recent assembly polls has reached unprecedented levels in West Bengal and Tamil Nadu, marking a significant moment in Indian electoral history. On Thursday, West Bengal recorded a staggering 91.78%, while Tamil Nadu followed with 84.69% participation.
This notable increase reflects a strengthened democratic engagement, particularly highlighted by the prominent participation of women voters. Tamil Nadu reported 85.76% turnout for women, surpassing the men's 83.57%, while West Bengal saw 92.69% female participation against 90.92% male.
The Election Commission (EC) praised these figures as milestones since Independence. Across multiple states, including Assam and Puducherry, the record-breaking trend continues, with counting slated for May 4.
