Subrata Thakur, BJP's candidate from Gaighata in West Bengal, has reported a significant increase in assets, now totaling Rs 72.5 lakh according to his 2026 election affidavit. This marks a rise of Rs 16 lakh from the 2021 declaration, which showed Rs 56.14 lakh in assets with no liabilities.
However, his liabilities have surged to Rs 14.21 lakh, originating from loans. Thakur's assets include bank deposits of Rs 1.31 lakh, vehicles worth Rs 7.87 lakh, and jewellery valued at Rs 37 lakh. Notably, he has not declared any agricultural or non-agricultural land, nor are there immovable assets valued in the affidavit.
The affidavit also reveals that Thakur is facing three pending criminal cases, including charges of criminal intimidation, house trespassing, and voluntarily causing hurt, up from two in 2021. Thakur, a social worker involved in religious activities, holds a hospitality management diploma from an institute in Sydney, Australia.
