In a dramatic turn during a protest, BJP MLA Anupama Jaiswal was injured while setting an effigy on fire in Bahraich. The protest, aimed against Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav, resulted in a sudden burst of flames that caused minor burns to Jaiswal's forehead.
Chief Medical Superintendent M M Tripathi confirmed that Jaiswal sustained superficial burns affecting about four percent of her forehead, although her eyes remained unharmed. The protest was part of the BJP's 'Mahila Janaakrosh March' against the opposition, near the district magistrate's residence.
Immediate response by party workers ensured that the fire was quickly extinguished, and Jaiswal was transported to the district hospital. She later sought further medical advice in Lucknow to consult a plastic surgeon. BJP district vice president Rahul Rai noted that excessive flammable material on the effigy might have sparked the accident.
