Aam Aadmi Party MP Sanjay Singh announced his submission of a petition to Rajya Sabha Chairman C P Radhakrishnan, urging the disqualification of seven MPs who recently resigned from AAP to join the BJP.
Addressing a press conference, Singh stressed that these MPs violated the anti-defection law by quitting their party affiliations after being elected on AAP tickets. The legal standing of such political maneuvers might be contested, with AAP preparing to engage in legal action if necessary.
The political landscape shifted last Friday when seven AAP MPs, including prominent figures like Raghav Chadha and others, decided to align with BJP, claiming a drift in AAP's principles. This move, affecting MPs primarily from Punjab, has led to widespread disturbances and protests within the state.
