Authorities in Ghazipur, Uttar Pradesh, have filed charges against two social media accounts for disseminating false information concerning the alleged sexual assault and murder of a teenage girl. The accounts, related to Congress and the Samajwadi Party, stand accused of inflaming tensions with misleading posts.
The girl's body was discovered on April 15 by the Zamania-Dharammarpur bridge, prompting accusations of assault and calls for swift justice. Investigations are underway as the police arrested the primary suspect, Hariom Pandey, following a report from the victim's family.
The situation escalated when a Samajwadi Party delegation visiting the victim's family encountered violence in the form of stone-pelting. The incident left several, including police, injured, and resulted in ten arrests. The political and social ramifications continue as community tensions simmer.
