Bengal Chief Minister Suspends Officers Over Hospital Rape-Murder Case Mishandling

West Bengal Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari has taken decisive action against three senior IPS officers in connection with the RG Kar hospital rape-murder case. Announcing their suspension, Adhikari cited alleged mishandling and dereliction of duty during the initial investigation phase by ex-Kolkata Police Commissioner Vineet Goyal and ex-deputy commissioners Indira Mukherjee and Abhishek Gupta.

The accusations include offering bribes to the victim's parents and holding unauthorized press conferences. Adhikari emphasized that while the CBI handles the current investigation, the state government will focus on scrutinizing the Kolkata Police's actions before the central agency's involvement.

Chief Secretary Manoj Agarwal and Home Secretary Sanghamitra Ghosh will lead the departmental inquiry, ensuring impartiality. The controversial case, involving the rape and murder of a 31-year-old doctor, continues to stir public outrage, with suspicions of a larger conspiracy and state-sponsored cover-up persisting.
