Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu stated on Tuesday that the party will prioritise younger candidates for the upcoming municipal corporation elections. Speaking to media personnel in Dharamshala, the chief minister mentioned that candidates must apply for the elections by Tuesday, and the Congress state president will hold discussions regarding the selection of these candidates. ''The party will announce its candidates for the municipal elections very soon, possibly at any moment,'' he added. When asked about the Municipal Corporations issuing tenders during the Model Code of Conduct, Sukhu stated that any such tenders would need to be postponed if they had already been issued. Additionally, the chief minister emphasised the importance of expanding the airport in Kangra district for tourism and noted that it was due to his personal interest in the project that it is moving forward; otherwise, he claimed, no one would have pursued it. He criticised the central government for deliberately creating a shortage of funds for Himachal Pradesh. ''We have raised funds from our own resources, and we know how to secure funding. After the airport expansion, an international-level innovation centre will be constructed near Tapovan,'' he stated. Sukhu also revealed that Congress district presidents are currently being trained in Kangra to strategise on how to counter the RSS agendas. ''Consequently, ministers and the chief minister rarely need to attend the training camp, but I am going to meet the attendees. Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi will also be attending the training camp,'' he said.
