Kerala's Political Tug-of-War: IUML's Stand on CM Candidacy Sparks Debate

The Indian Union Muslim League (IUML), a pivotal player in Kerala's United Democratic Front (UDF), signaled its endorsement of V D Satheesan for Chief Minister, should the UDF secure a win. This, however, ignited controversy as SNDP Yogam leader, Vellappally Natesan criticized the decision, suggesting it implies undue IUML influence within the coalition.

Sadik Ali Shihab Thangal, the IUML leader, indicated that the move reflects public sentiment—a stance that underscores the Congress's strategy of aligning its decisions with voter opinion. Natesan, on the other hand, argued that support for Satheesan as CM illuminates a perceived IUML dominance, warning of potential political instability.
