In the closely watched North Paravoor constituency, V D Satheesan, a prominent Congress leader and UDF face, is trailing behind his opponent, E T Tyson of the CPI(M), according to early TV reports.
Initial rounds of EVM counting indicate that Tyson has secured a lead of more than 240 votes. However, Satheesan, who serves as the Leader of the Opposition and headed the UDF campaign in the Assembly elections, is anticipated to close the gap as votes from areas with a strong Congress presence are tabulated.
The contest remains crucial as Satheesan is a key contender for the Chief Minister post should the UDF secure power. Current trends show the Congress leading in most of Kerala's 140 Assembly constituencies.
