In a closely watched electoral battle, Assam Congress president Gaurav Gogoi finds himself trailing BJP's Hitendranath Goswami by 4,132 votes in the Jorhat Assembly constituency.
This contest marks Gogoi's first attempt in Assembly elections, pitting him against Goswami, who is seeking his third consecutive term.
Gogoi has so far gathered 9,875 votes, whereas the more seasoned Goswami, a five-time MLA, has garnered 14,007 votes. The voting spanned across 126 constituencies in Assam.
