Controversial Recount Alters Election Outcome in Sringeri

D N Jeevaraj of the BJP has been declared the MLA for Sringeri Assembly constituency after a recount of postal ballots, according to a declaration by the returning officer. The recount was ordered by the Karnataka High Court following an election petition by Jeevaraj, challenging the initial 2023 election results in which Congress candidate T D Raje Gowda won.

The recount revealed a significant shift, reducing Raje Gowda's votes by 255 and subsequently disqualifying him as MLA. These developments have spurred accusations of vote tampering from Raje Gowda, who has called for a thorough investigation into the recount process and individuals involved.

Deputy Chief Minister D K Shivakumar criticized the recounting practice, describing it as a "dangerous" and "shocking" precedent. The political atmosphere remains tense with potential legal battles on the horizon as both parties seek clarification over claims of electoral malpractice.
