West Bengal minister Aroop Biswas suffered a defeat in the Tollyganj assembly seat, losing to BJP challenger Papiya Adhikari by 6,013 votes. The vote count stood at 88,407 for Adhikari against 82,394 for Biswas.
Prior to this setback, Biswas faced criticism over the chaotic Lionel Messi event at Salt Lake stadium, leading to his resignation as the state's Sports Minister. Despite stepping down, he continued as a cabinet member overseeing the Power Department.
Controversy continues to dog Biswas, with accusations of protecting a 'syndicate' involved in Tollyganj's film studios. Meanwhile, the CPI(M) candidate, Partha Pratim Biswas, secured 30,335 votes, landing in third place.
