The BJP-led NDA coalition captured 102 of the 126 seats in the Assam assembly, a decisive victory that clears the path for fresh leadership. The elections were conducted in a single phase, with the announcement of results on May 4.
Sarma, however, will continue as caretaker Chief Minister until the official swearing-in of the new government, expected to occur post-May 11. The next Assam Chief Minister will be chosen by the BJP legislature party, under the guidance of central observers.
