On Monday, the BJP strongly criticized the Samajwadi Party over alleged derogatory comments made by its MP, Ajendra Singh Lodhi, against Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Lodhi's remarks, calling Modi 'anti-national' during a protest in Mahoba, Uttar Pradesh, stirred significant backlash.

The controversy erupted after a video emerged online, displaying Lodhi purportedly using offensive language in response to Modi's recent austerity measures, which focus on reduced gold and fuel consumption. Prominent BJP figures, including national spokespersons Gaurav Bhatia and Shehzad Poonawalla, condemned Lodhi's statements, attributing them to SP president Akhilesh Yadav's influence.

BJP spokesperson Gaurav Bhatia labeled Lodhi's comments an insult to both the Prime Minister and the voters of Uttar Pradesh who support Modi. Furthermore, Bhatia suggested that such rhetoric signals the Samajwadi Party's growing desperation in anticipation of a loss in the upcoming 2027 state assembly elections.
