Uttar Pradesh Congress chief Ajay Rai has criticized Prime Minister Narendra Modi's recent appeal for austerity measures, calling it a diversion tactic. Rai urged BJP leaders to make personal donations in the national interest and referenced Indira Gandhi's historical donation during the 1962 India-China war as a genuine gesture of sacrifice.
In a scathing critique, Rai accused Modi of misleading the public by suggesting petrol and diesel consumption cuts through carpooling, metro usage, and postponement of gold and foreign travel purchases for a year. He argued that these measures are misleading and fail to address underlying economic issues.
Rai further stated that Modi's decisions are focused on electoral gains, rather than national welfare. The UP Congress chief highlighted the distress caused among the populace by rising gas prices and inflation, claiming BJP's policies are detrimental to the common citizen.
