In Maharashtra, the opposition has called on Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis to implement Prime Minister Narendra Modi's austerity measures sincerely, urging ministers to cut down on the extravagant use of convoys and align with the austerity principles being encouraged nationwide.
Opposition leaders from the NCP and Congress criticized the ruling party's propensity for large vehicle convoys and suggested a cultural shift towards using public transport and carpooling to embody the austerity call. Congress spokesperson Sachin Sawant even recommended banning the Indian Premier League to demonstrate seriousness about resource conservation.
Shiv Sena's Aaditya Thackeray lamented what he termed the central government's failure, while accusing BJP leaders of hypocrisy by not adhering to the same restrictions imposed on the public. The opposition's statements come amid a broader national conversation on resource conservation and reduced consumption.
