In a sharp critique of Prime Minister Narendra Modi's call for austerity, AIMIM president Asaduddin Owaisi on Tuesday questioned the motives behind the government's push to save foreign exchange. Speaking to reporters, Owaisi alleged that one of the aims of this economic tightening is to accumulate dollars for oil purchases from the U.S., ultimately benefiting President Donald Trump.
He raised concerns about whether the BJP was aware of impending fuel price hikes during the recent state elections, accusing the Prime Minister of not disclosing potential post-election hardships. 'Is this really about patriotism, or are there other hidden objectives?' he posed to the ruling party.
The Hyderabad MP warned that citizens might soon face increased prices for petrol, diesel, and aviation fuel. He criticized the advice against gold purchases and foreign travel, suggesting these are part of a strategy to save dollars for use in the U.S. trade arrangements. 'It's important for the public to discern whether these appeals for austerity are genuinely patriotic or serve other purposes,' Owaisi asserted.
