The Tamil Nadu Assembly is gearing up for a decisive vote of confidence for the TVK government, directed by C Joseph Vijay. The floor test, scheduled to occur by May 13, will test the unity and political strategy of the ruling coalition.
While TVK stands at a strength of 107 in the Assembly, its internal calculations have been thrown into disarray due to a High Court ruling barring the Tirupattur MLA, R Seenivasa Sethupathy, from voting. Meanwhile, the support from five Congress MLAs, along with commitments from CPI, CPI (M), VCK, and IUML, bolsters TVK's chances.
Adding another layer of complexity, a faction of approximately 30 AIADMK MLAs has pledged their support to the TVK, defying party chief Edappadi K Palaniswami. This has raised the question of possible anti-defection repercussions as these legislative maneuvers unfold.
