Former Punjab minister Surjit Singh Rakhra is reportedly considering a move to join the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) as discussions with the ruling party's leadership progress. Once a prominent face of the Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD), Rakhra distanced himself from the party following disagreements, particularly with its president, Sukhbir Singh Badal.
Rakhra, who has held significant portfolios during Akali administrations, has now praised Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann for enacting a stringent anti-sacrilege law. He claims his advocacy for such legislation included organizing protests in the Samana constituency.
While acknowledging no formal meetings with AAP's national convener Arvind Kejriwal, Rakhra hinted at a potential future visit. He expressed interest in aligning with a political group that genuinely prioritizes Punjab's interests.
