A city court has ordered Bangla Pokkho founder Garga Chatterjee into police custody until May 16. This decision was made in connection with a cybercrime case concerning misinformation allegedly spread during the West Bengal Assembly elections.
The court rejected Chatterjee's bail request after considering arguments from both sides. His counsel denied accusations of misinformation related to social media posts about EVMs during the elections.
Kolkata Police arrested Chatterjee after he ignored two summons related to complaints about his posts. Election authorities allege that his posts created distrust around the voting process, violating conduct codes and cyber laws.
