Escalating Tensions: Israel and Hezbollah's Deadly Exchanges
Israeli airstrikes targeted Hezbollah infrastructure in Lebanon, with seven vehicles hit and 12 casualties. The attacks, along a major highway near Beirut, prompted evacuations and involved drone strikes. Both Israeli and Hezbollah forces exchanged fire, posing risks to UN peacekeeping operations. Diplomatic talks are anticipated to address ongoing tensions.
In a dramatic escalation of hostilities, Israeli airstrikes on Wednesday targeted Hezbollah infrastructure in several locations across southern Lebanon, reportedly killing 12 individuals, including a woman and her two children. The attacks, which struck seven vehicles, occurred hours after warnings were issued to residents of southern villages to evacuate the area.
The strikes primarily targeted vehicles on a major highway south of Beirut, with additional attacks near the city of Sidon and other southern regions. The Lebanese Health Ministry confirmed the incidents but refrained from offering detailed casualty figures per vehicle. Meanwhile, sporadic exchanges of fire between Hezbollah and Israeli forces continue despite a US-mediated ceasefire earlier this month.
As tensions mount, Lebanon and Israel prepare for renewed diplomatic talks in Washington. The United Nations has expressed concern over drone strikes allegedly launched by Hezbollah close to its peacekeeping forces, urging both sides to adhere to the ceasefire agreement and avoid further conflict.
