Celebrations erupted in Kerala as V D Satheesan was named the new Chief Minister by the Congress High Command. Joy spread across the state, with supporters firing crackers and distributing sweets.
Satheesan, long seen as the frontrunner, received backing from UDF allies. He represented Paravur in Ernakulam and served as the Leader of the Opposition.
His appointment ended a competitive selection process that included senior Congress leader Ramesh Chennithala and Congress MP K C Venugopal.
