A delegation from the Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) approached the Punjab state election commissioner to raise concerns about electoral processes affecting their candidates in the upcoming local body elections. Allegations flew about the denial of essential no objection certificates (NOCs).

Leading the delegation, SAD leader Bikram Singh Majithia accused the Majitha municipal committee executive officer of refusing these certificates under the influence of the ruling AAP. Majithia asserted that SAD candidates submitted nomination papers alongside affidavits affirming compliance with requirements.

The delegation implored the State Election Commissioner, Raj Kamal Chaudhury, to address the issue. Meanwhile, elections for 105 municipal bodies, eight corporations included, are on the horizon with polls scheduled for May 26, and results due on May 29.
