Tragedy Strikes Colombian Presidential Campaign with Killings

In a tragic turn of events, two campaign workers for the right-wing Colombian presidential candidate Abelardo De La Espriella were killed just two weeks before the presidential election. The incident, involving Rogers Mauricio Devia and Fabian Cardona, took place in a rural area of Cubarral, Meta province.

According to reports, four hooded men on motorcycles intercepted and opened fire on the individuals as they were returning from Villavicencio with campaign materials. Devia, a former mayor, was leading local campaign efforts while Cardona handled logistics for De La Espriella's campaign.

In a video statement, De La Espriella described the act as a 'cowardly murder in cold blood,' and pointed fingers at a dissident faction of the former FARC rebels for the assassination, though he provided no supporting evidence. As the election looms, tensions escalate in Colombia, where De La Espriella trails leftist Ivan Cepeda in the polls.
