In a political upheaval, VD Satheesan assumed office as the Chief Minister of Kerala on Monday, following the Congress-led United Democratic Front's (UDF) overwhelming victory in the 2026 Assembly elections. The transition ends a 10-year period of Left Democratic Front (LDF) dominion in the southern state.
Governor Rajendra Vishwanath Arlekar administered the oath to Satheesan along with his 20-member Cabinet in a ceremony earmarked by the presence of significant political dignitaries, underlining the national implications of this power shift. Among the attendees were Congress stalwarts such as Mallikarjun Kharge, Rahul Gandhi, and Priyanka Gandhi.
The new government's cabinet includes leaders across the Congress coalition, including notable figures from allied parties. In a nod to inclusive governance, Satheesan emphasized the Cabinet's social and regional equilibrium, alongside representation for women and Scheduled Castes, in his formation strategy.
