Former Tamil Nadu Minister Palanivel Thiaga Rajan announced on Monday he is temporarily stepping away from active political life after losing in the recent Assembly elections. The DMK candidate for Madurai Central cites health focus, international lecture engagements, and book completion as reasons for the break.

Despite conceding defeat to a Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) candidate, Rajan foresees a continued commitment to public service. He expressed the intent to return re-energized, stressing the evolving political landscape characterized by modern campaigning techniques and a diminishing DMK–AIADMK stronghold.

Reflecting on his political journey, Rajan declined to legally challenge his opponents despite identified discrepancies and abstained from unethical electoral tactics. Acknowledging his supporters, he values ethics over victory. At 60, Rajan contemplates an eventual retirement but remains dedicated to pending public projects.
