Yogi Adityanath condoles demise of ex-Uttarakhand CM BC Khanduri

Uttar Pradesh chief minister Yogi Adityanath on Tuesday expressed deep grief over the demise of former Uttarakhand chief minister and senior BJP leader Bhuvan Chandra Khanduri.

In a post on X, Adityanath said, ''The demise of former Uttarakhand chief minister and senior BJP leader Maj Gen (Retd) Bhuvan Chandra Khanduri is extremely saddening. Humble tributes.''.

He said he prayed to Lord Ram to grant peace to the departed soul and strength to the bereaved family to bear the loss.

Khanduri, a former chief minister of Uttarakhand and senior BJP leader, died at 11 am on Tuesday at a private hospital in Dehradun following a prolonged illness. He was 91 years old.

He served twice as the chief minister of Uttarakhand.

Khanduri first became chief minister in 2007 after the BJP came to power in the hill state.

However, he resigned in 2009, taking responsibility for the party's defeat in all five Lok Sabha seats in the state.

He was again entrusted with the leadership of the state by the BJP in 2011.

Khanduri also served as a Union minister in the cabinet of former prime minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee, where he held the portfolio of road transport and highways.

He is widely credited for spearheading the ambitious Golden Quadrilateral highway project connecting different parts of the country.

Khanduri is survived by his wife Aruna, son Manish, and daughter Ritu Khanduri Bhushan.
