Slamming Congress leader Rahul Gandhi for his 'traitor' remark against Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Union Agriculture Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan on Thursday said such accusations are made out of bafflement due to continuous electoral failures.

Chouhan, who visited the ICAR-Indian Institute of Millets Research (IIMR) here and reviewed its activities, said Rahul Gandhi's comments reflect a ''cheap mentality''.

''The whole world respects the prime minister. He (Modi) was given the highest honours of many countries. He says 140 crore Indians have got these awards. In such a situation, people will never forgive those who use disrespectful words against PM Modi,'' he told reporters.

There can be political competition, but nobody should use such language, he said.

''The whole world is praising his (PM Modi's) leadership. The country stands with him. But, those are continuously defeated; they make such allegations as they are baffled,'' Chouhan said.

The Union Minister also congratulated PM Modi for being honoured with the Agricola Medal 2026 by the United Nations agency FAO.

The honour has been bestowed upon Modi for his efforts in ensuring food security, reducing poverty, increasing agricultural production and productivity, and eradicating hunger from the world, he said.
