Chief Minister N Rangasamy on Friday reiterated the plea to the Tamil Nadu government to extend its cooperation for expansion of Puducherry airport runway.

The CM said that the sustained cooperation of the Tamil Nadu government was essential for Puducherry in its development.

He said that the territorial government had been insisting that the neighbouring Tamil Nadu government acquire the necessary site in its territorial limits and make it available to Puducherry for expansion of the runway of the airport.

''I hope that the Tamil Nadu chief minister will concede our plea. I would also reiterate the request during my meeting with the CM C Joseph Vijay,'' Rangasamy said while inaugurating a week-long 76th Junior national basketball championship for boys and girls at Rajiv Gandhi indoor stadium here.

The CM said that the territorial government was giving importance for sports and games. Special sports quota is also available for proficient sportspersons in getting jobs and also to pursue higher education in the union territory, he added.

Tamil Nadu Sports Development Minister Aadhav Arjuna, who is also president of the Basketball Federation of India, speaking on the occasion, suggested that sports events associating sportspersons from southern states could be held to help youth have the right track without any distraction. The Puducherry chief minister could be the coordinator as he is a senior leader, he added.
