Delhi Police has busted an inter-state and international syndicate involved in trafficking stolen mobile phones from Delhi-NCR to Bangladesh through West Bengal, and arrested two alleged receivers with 163 stolen and snatched devices, an official said on Monday.
The accused, identified as Abdul Samim (23) and Ahidujjaman (35), both residents of West Bengal's Malda district, were apprehended from the Okhla Vihar area following a tip-off, he said.
The police received intel on May 19 regarding the involvement of the two accused in purchasing stolen, snatched and robbed mobile phones from criminals operating in Delhi-NCR and sending them to Bangladesh through courier channels routed via West Bengal.
The police team conducted a raid in Okhla Vihar and apprehended both accused. During their search, five stolen mobile phones linked to different Delhi e-FIRs were recovered from their possession.
During sustained interrogation, the accused allegedly revealed that they had recently dispatched a large consignment of stolen mobile phones to West Bengal using courier services.
Police said the team immediately coordinated with courier operators and tracked suspicious consignments stored at a warehouse in Gurugram, Haryana. The consignments were intercepted before delivery, leading to the recovery of 158 additional stolen mobile phones.
A total of 163 stolen, snatched and robbed mobile phones along with courier consignments, packaging material, courier slips and invoices were seized during the operation, police said.
Investigators said the syndicate operated by collecting stolen mobile phones from criminals active across Delhi-NCR and transporting them through courier networks to West Bengal, from where the devices were allegedly trafficked illegally into Bangladesh for sale in grey markets.
Police said the operation exposed an organised inter-state and international network involved in the illegal purchase, transportation and disposal of stolen mobile phones. Further investigation is underway to identify the backward and forward linkages of the syndicate in Delhi-NCR, West Bengal and Bangladesh.
Several theft and snatching cases registered across Delhi, including Delhi Cantt, Patel Nagar, Paharganj, Kotwali, Kirti Nagar, Nangloi, Palam and New Delhi Railway Station police stations, have been worked out with the recovery.
Police said Abdul Samim was previously involved in a case under the Arms Act registered at Sunlight Colony police station in 2025, while no previous criminal involvement has been found against Ahidujjaman so far.
