Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis on Monday directed all government departments to review their services and bring them under the Government Process Re-engineering (GPR) framework to ensure simple, speedy and quality public service delivery.
Chairing a review meeting on GPR here, Fadnavis said there was a need to accelerate the process of reducing unnecessary stages, paperwork and procedures in government services and schemes.
''All departments should review their services and bring them under the GPR process,'' he said, adding the state government was focusing on the quality of services rather than merely increasing their number.
''Till now, 1,222 services have been reviewed and 723 services useful to citizens have been prepared. After full integration in the next phase, several services will merge and this number will reduce further,'' the CM said.
Fadnavis directed officials to speed up the restructuring of services under 'Aaple Sarkar 2.0' to provide citizens with more transparent, accessible and faster services, an official release issued after the meeting said.
The process of simplifying and improving services under 'Aaple Sarkar 2.0' would be completed by August 14 this year, and citizens would experience the revamped system from Independence Day, he said.
Fadnavis said government procedures had become complicated over the years because of the addition of several unnecessary steps and stressed the need to make them simpler and citizen-friendly through GPR reforms.
Referring to the earlier self-certification initiative, he said, ''The removal of unnecessary certificates and attestation requirements had saved citizens' time and brought direct accountability on individuals.''.
The CM instructed department heads to personally monitor the simplification exercise, reduce unnecessary stages wherever required and speed up administrative procedures.
Fadnavis praised the Revenue Department for taking the lead in simplifying its services. ''Since the Revenue Department directly deals with people, its transformation accounts for 40 to 50 per cent of the government's overall transformation work,'' he said.
He also stressed the need to focus on service delivery systems in local self-government bodies and said a uniform and strong system should be developed despite various experiments being undertaken by local bodies.
The chief minister further called for greater use of hyperlocal digital platforms such as Public App to effectively communicate the government's positive initiatives to citizens.
He asked every department to formulate a dedicated strategy for using such platforms.
