A 21-year-old student died of a gunshot wound he accidently inflicted on himself in North Delhi's Rohini, police said on Monday.
Raja, a local, died on Sunday at a party in Jain Nagar, they said.
By the time the police reached the spot, the man had been taken by his friend to a local hospital. A critical Raja succumbed at the hospital.
An empty cartridge was recovered from the spot, an officer said.
According to an initial investigation, a group of friends had gathered for a party where Raja sustained a gunshot injury in his stomach after he accidentally fired the weapon.
''The injured person had given his recorded statement in which he stated that the bullet was fired accidentally by him and struck his stomach,'' the officer said.
The police suspect that the firearm belonged to one of Raja's friends who was at the party. However, the exact ownership of the weapon and whether it was licensed or illegal are being verified, the officer said.
After the incident, Raja's friends allegedly fled from the spot.
The police have registered a case and are probing all likely angles.
